GRONDONA

The Grondona family’s funerary monument, which was made in 1882, concretely offers a representation  of the practice of the charity. The inscription reads an evangelical precept: “Let not your left hand know what your right hand does”. The themes of Charity and Benefaction, which are often represented in this cemetery and tend naturally to entwine, are represented in different ways: with an allegory of the classical virtue (a feminine figure who is breastfeeding or hugging some children), with a representation of the evangelical parables or with the representation of some more scenographic and complex scenes in a verist style, in which the attention is focused on the beneficiaries, so poor, orphans and those who have
benefited from the different actions promoted by the benefactor are represented in a concrete fashion, with specific references to them.
